I always wanted to take care of my skin

This is the phrase I’ve heard most often from the people I’ve treated, and in fact, one of the things that also happened to me.

Today I want to explain the mistake in this phrase…

When I started taking care of my skin a few years ago, I was well into my thirties. I thought it was time to start, and I was very wrong.

When I started taking care of my skin as a self-care routine, I began to see fascinating changes: my skin began to look more rejuvenated, smoother, and softer, with fewer blemishes, and overall, I really liked the change I was seeing. But I wondered… what if I had started taking care of myself before I was in my thirties? This is when more questions about skincare began to arise.

Just a few years later, when I began studying to become an Esthetician in New York City, all these questions began to be answered, and from then on, I became convinced that skincare is more than just applying products or following a routine of steps.

Skincare should be a conscious awareness, and that’s why I’ve always been very open to discussing skincare with my clients. This isn’t just about offering a service, but also about guiding and educating them about the importance of skincare. Skincare is an organ of the body, and as such, it requires care.

In fact, we start taking care of our skin at an early age, even without realizing it; because… don’t we apply sunscreen to children when they’re exposed to the sun? (And sunscreen is one of the most important skincare products.) Therefore, we start taking care of our skin at an early age.

But then I’d tell you that, if we’re talking about a skincare routine, the best age to start taking care of ourselves is adolescence or teenage. These years bring hormonal changes that could lead to skin problems like acne (which is one of the most common skin conditions). Therefore, I believe adolescence is the best age to start; not only to counteract the hormonal changes reflected in the skin, but also to create a habit and a discipline that can continue in later years.

When we take care of our skin during one’s twenties, this ensures that after thirties it will look better, younger, and different from a person that has never been taking care of their skin.

If you’re in your thirties or older, you can also give your skin the necessary care to rejuvenate it and reverse the internal or external effects that affect the skin. I started in my thirties, and the results have been visible even as the years go by.

Although it’s never too late to start, I tell you that the earlier you start, the better. We can always counteract the effects of ageing, improve, revitalize and rejuvenate the condition of our skin.
